Consulting & Entertaining with Purpose

Julie Purpura has spent more than half her life working in the hospitality industry.  Born and raised in the Finger Lakes, Julie has spent the last 20 years following her two greatest passions: education and wine.

Upon graduating with a Master of Science in Teaching, Julie was hired as Winery Program Coordinator and Instructor of Hospitality & Tourism at Jefferson Community College.

She is a Certified Sommelier from the Court of Master Sommeliers, has attained her WSET level 3, and is a C.S.W. through the Society of Wine Educators.

Notably, she is proud of her personal relationships within the incredible wine community. Julie is respected for her approachable style, insightful knowledge, and authentic passion for sharing her stories about the wine and spirits industry.

She has worked with the NY Wine & Culinary Center (now called ‘New York Kitchen’) and the NY Wine & Grape Foundation in helping promote our family-owned craft beverages.

Only the Best

"Learning with Julie Purpura is always fun.  Learning about wine with her is a serious treat.  Her background in teaching, from elementary school through university courses, means she understands how to make new ideas and knowledge accessible to everyone.  Her deep experience and passion for wine means she makes it accessible with compelling enthusiasm.  I have seen her lead wine events in multiple formats – face to face, virtually, and in informal settings or university classes, and they have always been inspirational and exciting.  I have watched her deal with young college students getting their first introduction to wine, amateur wine lovers who though they already knew all about it, and sommeliers and beverage managers in training at demanding European universities.  In every case, she brought out their own passion and curiosity, made the subject approachable and interesting, and left the audience with new ideas and awareness of how wine could be part of their lives.  She knows how to organize and manage events, how to make a class feel like an exciting experience, and how to subtly bring together a group of friends around a new experience without making it a formal class.

The world has many wine experts and even a few great teachers, but getting the two together is a special opportunity.  Julie is that opportunity and she is a great choice for anyone who wants to learn and to enjoy learning about wine." - Greg G.
